1 Introduction
In the early years of the 19th century--Victorian Age, it was a male-dominated and “money above all” society. Women did not have the rights to speak for themselves. They were induced to an inferior position in the society. The popular character-Jane Eyre-was born in this period. Her emergence surprised people at that time and became popular immediately. She was poor and plain, but she was not surrendering to the common custom pressure but becoming an independent, self-respecting, proactive woman. Some women were very charming to men because they had beautiful face while Jane was only a penniless and plain girl. Her charm to people from the past to now was her unique character. As the book Woman in the English Novel [5] says; “ Not only do the people in that period can learn a lot from Jane, but also do the women today could.”
