摘　要

对于最初的小说在形式和内容上,《简.爱》这部作品被很多人认为是女权主义的先驱。在最初的一段时间，可能只有小说中复杂的情节吸引着它的读者,但它的伟大品质使它永存于我们脑海里。19世纪中期的英国正处维多利亚女王统治时期,其社会强势群体推行复兴的清教主义思想、森严的伦理道德思想和社会等级观念以及男权主义思想。在这些制度和道义下,女性受到各种清规戒律的极度压抑和剥削,而《简爱》这一闻名于世的作品恰恰揭示了19世纪英国社会的这一现实，并且注入了新颖的题材和真实的情感，塑造了一个一生都在为自由、平等、独立和爱情而抗争的，超越女性传统性格的女性形象。本文运用描述与分析的方法来对人物进行研究，通过对这部作品中主人公简.爱的三个不同阶段的性格分析，使其性格特征更加明显而深刻，让人们对简.爱这个人物形象有更深的了解与认识。

Abstract

For the prime of the novel in form and content, Jane Eyre is regarded by many people as the precursor of feminism. It may be the complicated plot of a novel that fascinate its readers at first and for some time, but its great character that makes it stay in our memory forever. In the middle of the 19th century, the Great Britain was under the control of the Queen Victoria, whose mainstream ideas were the Puritanism thought, the strict ethical thoughts, the social hierarchy view and the male chauvinism. With the trammel of this system, female was extremely oppressed and exploited by all kinds of taboos and commandments. However, famed the world over, Jane Eyre shows us the truth of the British society in the 19th century and pours into a new subject and true emotion, constructing a female image who fights for freedom, equality, independence and love for her whole life. This new image has completely surpassed the female traditional character. By using the methods of description and analysis in studying the protagonist, this thesis analyzes the protagonist Jane Eyre’s character in three different periods at the aim of making Jane’s character more and more obvious and profound. In this way, people can have a deeper understanding about Jane Eyre.

1 Introduction
Jane Eyre is a novel which is full of autobiographic style. Although the story in the book is fictive, the life and the environment of the heroine as well as many other characters, even a lot of the details of life originate from the true experience between the writer herself and the people surrounding her. The author, Charlotte Bronte was born in a priest family in northern England in 1816. As her mother passed away, the eight-year-old Charlotte was sent to a boarding school. Under the extremely bad life circumstance, her two sisters died off because of the lung disease. Therefore, Charlotte and her sister Emily came back to the hometown and spent their childhood on the desolate Yorkshire mountain. When she was 15 years old, she studied in the school which was held by Miss Wood and taught in the school after some years later.
