《飘》是美国小说家玛格丽特米切尔唯一的，也是最著名的小说。由于鲜明的个性和对待生活态度与大部分人不太相同，小说女主人公斯嘉丽奥哈拉成为了一个众所周知的形象。本论文可以帮助人们更好地了解斯嘉丽。《飘》是一部励志小说，描写的是一位农场主的女儿斯嘉丽，一个漂亮高傲的姑娘，经历了南北战争，父母死亡，家园荒废，爱人另娶他人，奴隶逃跑，经历了三次婚姻，在乱世中为了爱情和生活苦苦挣扎的故事。斯嘉丽是一个个性十分强烈的女孩，她高贵优雅，也热情狂妄。她的性格里高贵的成分来源于她的母亲，她的母亲出生名门，对斯嘉丽的教导颇为严格，而她的热情则是遗传了她的父亲。她的父亲是苏格兰人。苏格兰人热情洋溢，且非常热爱家园。总而言之，环境塑造了斯嘉丽，而斯嘉丽又反过来塑造了自己的生存环境。在乱世中成长起来的斯嘉丽，她坚强的个性激励了一代又一代的人。

Abstract

Gone with the Wind is American writer Margaret Mitchell’s only and world renowned novel. And the heroine-- Scarlett O’Hara is a well-known figure in this novel because of her character and her attitude towards life. In order to understanding Scarlett better, I write the paper. Gone with the Wind is an encouraging book. It describes a story that a farmer's daughter, Scarlett, a beautiful, proud girl, experienced the Civil War, the parents’ death, the abandonment of home, the marriage of her lover and another girl, slave escaping, still struggling in the troubled times for her love and life. Scarlett is a distinctive girl. She is proud and elegant, and also enthusiastic and swagger. The noble elements of her character come from her mother. Her mother is a spring from noble ancestor; her mother educates Scarlett very strictly. Scarlett inherits her mother of this good point, but not her mother’s kindness and willingness to give. The passionate parts of hers come from her father. Her father is a Scotch. Scotch is glowing and they love their home very much. Scarlett's characters affect her a lot in dealing with people and doing other things. In short, the environment shaped Scarlett, and Scarlett in turn created her own living environment. Growing up in troubled times, Scarlett’s strong personality inspires generations of people.

1 Introduction
1.1 Background information
Gone with the Wind is a famous work written by Margaret Mitchell. Margaret Mitchell is an American modern famous female writer. In November 8, 1900, Margaret Mitchell was born in Atlanta Georgia. And she was born in a lawyer family. Her father was the chairman of History Association in Atlanta city. Her mother was one of the leaders of Atlanta Feminism Movement. Throughout her childhood, Margaret always heard her father talk to his friends, even the neighbors about the civil war. When she was 26, Margaret decided to write a novel about the civil war, Atlanta became the background of her novel maturely. Margret was awarded the literature PhD, and served as the Atlanta news of reporters. In 1937 she won the Pulitzer Prize. In 1949, she was unfortunately killed by a car. Her life is very short, too short to write enough works. But only Gone with the Wind is enough to lay her on the world the history of literature unshakable. Margate creates a strong character—Scarlett. Margate regards Scarlett as herself. She put her feeling in Scarlett.
