Abstract
George Lord Gordon Byron (1788-1824) was famous in his lifetime for his personality cult as for his poetry. He created the concept of the “Byronic hero”-- a defiant, melancholy young man, brooding on some mysterious and unforgivable event in his past. The poem showed Don Juan’s kindness and justice, and through his all sorts of romantic adventures, describing the European social conditions, landscape and social customs. It can be called a treasure house of art for its wide picture and rich content. This thesis will mainly take research and analysis approach in solving the following issues: firstly, the shaping of Don Juan under the influence of Byron’s life experience, liberty pursuing, and views on love; secondly, the impact of Byron’s life experience on the creation of Don Juan. Besides, Byron’s impact on romantic poetry will also be mentioned a bit.
