摘　要

简•奥斯汀是英国文学史上最著名的女作家之一，其中《傲慢与偏见》是她的一部杰出作品。在这部小说中，作者塑造了各种各样的人物，每个人物都有各自的性格特点。作者从不同方面展现人物性格，例如人物的对话，反语，各种不同的婚姻。本文旨在通过对男女主人公的性格分析，能够让读者更好地理解这部小说和18世纪以及19世纪的英国社会，了解爱情与婚姻的真谛。同时也证明了他们之间的婚姻是建立在爱情与共同性格的基础之上，是爱情与理想的成功结合。建立在金钱与冲动基础上的婚姻是不幸福的，但在特定的社会环境中，经济基础是十分必要的。

Abstract

Jane Austen was one of the best and greatest novelists in English literature. Pride and Prejudice has been valued as the most famous and successful masterpiece. In this novel, the writer shaped a variety of characters and each character has their own characteristics. The personality of the characters are shown from different aspects in the novel, such as dialogue of characters，irony and different marriages. The essay will mainly talk about analysis on the characters of the protagonists, and the readers not only can learn this novel better and the English society between eighteenth century and nineteenth century, but also have a deep understanding of the true love and marriage. At the same time, the essay proves the marriage between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth is based on the true love and similar interests. The combination based on love and idealism results in a successful and happy marriage. The money-oriented marriage and sex-oriented marriage are not happy. But at that time, in such a specific social environment, a good economic condition is rather necessary.

1 Introduction

This paper is mainly focus on the analysis on the characters of the protagonists in Pride and Prejudice.
In recent years, there is an increasingly argument on the novel Pride and Prejudice. Pride and Prejudice, probably the most famous of Jane Austen's finished novels, was also, in a sense, the first to be composed. The original version was completed by 1797, but was rejected for publication — no copy of the original has survived. The work was rewritten around 1812 and published in 1813 as Pride and Prejudice. The final form must have been a thorough rewriting of the original effort, for it is representative of the mature Austen. Moreover, the story clearly takes place in the early nineteenth century rather than in the late eighteenth century. Pride and Prejudice is Jane Austen’s most famous and popular novel and has captured the minds and hearts of many generations of readers. It is very important for us to analyze the characters of the protagonists in Pride and Prejudice, we can understand the novel closely and deeply. In this work, Jane Austen shaped various characters.
