摘 要
《傲慢与偏见》中的威肯是奥斯汀笔下一个比较典型的反面人物。他是小镇民兵团中的一名军官,表面上英俊潇洒,谈吐不凡,其实生活放荡,企图通过婚姻获取财富和地位,最后为一己私欲与伊丽莎白的小妹莉迪亚私奔。同时从另一层角度来看,他的所作所为也是女主角伊丽莎白和达西先生爱情道路上不可或缺的催化剂。本文通过对原著《傲慢与偏见》的解读,以及有关著作分析的参阅,对小说中的Wickham这个人物角色进行剖析,解读该人物在小说中命运起伏背后的原因,了解这个人物在小说时代背景下的形象。作为一个极力向上流社会攀爬,但最终以失败结束的人物,本文将通过其失败之内因与外因分析,解读韦克翰向上攀爬的原因。

Abstract
This paper aims to analyse the character of Wickham after the reading of Pride and Prejudice.In pride and prejudice, Wickham is described as a villain.He is an officer in the town military.He is handsome and seems cultured.In fact, his life style is dissolute.He attempts to gain fortune by marriage.And finally he eloped with Lydia,Elizabeth's youngest sister.On the other hand, he plays an important role in the hero and heroine. By studying his background and understanding the character in the social background which the novel referred. We know that Wickham is a person who is eager to reach the high level social state, but finally failed. What are the factors that prevent him from climbing? This our main task to analyse it. With his own reasons and some external causes including society and other characters in novel, he finally became the loser of social climber.

1 Introduction
Pride and Prejudice is a great novel.Many critics gave the high praise of it.And still lots of scholars are doing research about it.The novel not only attracted many readers in that time,but also gave the readers unique enjoymengt now.
1.1 The Introduction to the Author -----Jane Austen
Jane Austen was born in a country clergyman's family on 16 December 1775 at the Parsonage House of Steventon in Hampshire. She is the second daughter and sixth child of the eight ones in her family. She was educated at home with her sister. Her father is her primary teacher. Through a wide reading of books available in her father's library, Jane acquired a thorough knowledge of 18th -century of Dr. Johnson, the poetry of W. Cowper, as well as the novels by Richardson and Fielding. Her closest companion is her elder sister Cassandra, who like her, never married. Austen began as a child to write novels for her family entertainment. She spent the first twenty-five years of her life in her birthplace which is a pleasant and harmonious family .They seldom visited by others. In that place she finished her three novels.
