摘要

《呼啸山庄》是19世纪的英国女作家艾米莉勃朗特的一本优秀的小说，也是世界文学园地中的一朵奇葩，它展现了大量的哥特色彩。如今，越来越多的读者接受和欣赏这部小说，学者们从宗教的理论，心理学,艺术和文学等方面对这部小说进行研究。本文共分为五个部分，第一部分简要介绍了作者艾米莉勃朗特，其小说《呼啸山庄》及相关的国内外研究现状，并介绍了哥特小说的历史渊源；第二部分讨论了哥特小说的定义，起源，发展和影响；第三部分主要分析小说主人公希斯克历夫和凯瑟琳身上所体现出的哥特色彩；第四部分通过小说中环境和情节分析艾米莉对哥特文化的发展创新；第五部分是全文的总结,通过对呼啸山庄中的哥特文化的研究，以期帮助读者更好地理解这一出彩的小说。

Abstract

Wuthering Heights is an excellent novel written by Emily Bronte, and she is an English writer of the 19th century. Nowadays, an increasing number of readers all over the world appreciate and admire this novel. Besides, a considerable number of scholars study this classical work, basing on the theory of religion, psychology, art and literature .So this paper tries to make a study on the production of Wuthering Heights from the aspect of Gothic tradition of European and American literature. This article is divided into five parts: the first part gives a brief introduction to the author Emily Bronte, Gothic novels’ history, and offers a brief narration of literature review of Wuthering Heights; the second part introduces the definition, origin, development and effect of Gothic novels; the third part analysis the female gothic colors which embody in the main characters: Heathcliff and Catherine; the fourth parts illustrates Emily’s Gothic Innovation from the environment and plot; the last part is the conclusion., according to explore the Gothic culture of this novel and help readers to understand this excellent novel better.

1 Introduction
This part will give a brief description of Emily Bronte, and her novel Wuthering Heights. Emily Bronte had an unhappy childhood, during which she had senses of inferiority, timidity, introversion, and precocity. Thus, books became her best friends. She read not only all kinds of classic literature, but also the magazines of Braidwood and Fraser. This paper is based on the literature of Europe and the gothic tradition research of Wuthering heights. Wuthering Heights is used to refer to the Gothic tradition in theme, characters, environment description and image and plot structure. According to Emily’s extraordinary imagination, this novel shows its unique and lasting artistic charm.
