摘　要

作为备受争议的英国作家，D.H.劳伦斯一直以来是中外文学界研究的热门课题。遍观其文章，人们很容易会发现这些文字想象力大胆，内涵深刻,揭示人性深层内涵的同时，又十分贴近当时的时代背景。《菊花香》是劳伦斯早期著作之一，该故事意象丰富，主题多重，包含了作者诸多人生经历和家庭信息。本文研究该短篇小说，旨在提炼文中的主要主题，学习作者独特写作手法，说明恰当的意象运用对作家创作的重要性。同时点出劳伦斯作为20世纪以来最具争议英国作家之一，对英美文学未来发展的贡献和影响。

Abstract

As controversial English writer，the research of D.H. Lawrence and his works is a hot topic in today’s world literary circles. When reading his books，the reader could find that his writing has rich imitation，the meaning of these novels’ theme is profound. Odor of Chrysanthemums is Lawrence’s one of the early finest writings. In this short story, the images are rich, the themes are colorful. It also includes many of writer’s personal experiences and his family history. Aim to understand the themes of the story deeply, learn some writing ways in the book and tell person Lawrence’s outstanding contributions in the history of western literature. In addition, in order to prove that the right images are important part of the writing, the paper chooses this short one to study.

1 Introduction
In China, the research of Lawrence’s works came into vogue in the 1990s. Nowadays, the researches of Lawrence’s work become very popular. But based on the overall analysis of some studies, Chinese literature researchers are biased in favor of researching Lawrence’s long novels and his short novels are often largely ignored, so one of the paper’s purposes is to dredge this some deeper values from this story, these values include some social values, humanities values, writers’ personal values and so on. The research could help a person to gain more information about Lawrence’s writing styles and his experiences. The indirect benefit is to know some knowledge of the English literature. Odor of Chrysanthemums has a special imagery, chrysanthemums.
In western countries, chrysanthemums means death，the cycle of birth, drunkenness, but in China, the flower means the noble character. Different countries have different cultures; literature is a kind of special culture only belongs to the human race. The paper gives person a chance to try to find some East-West cultural differences. This is another purpose to choose it. Certainly, the paper also will help us to understand western cultures deeply. The paper chooses its image and theme to study, of course, has some purposes and significances. A good article is often filled with many high quality images; its themes are always thought-provoking and meaningful. Odor of Chrysanthemums was written in the early 19th.The short story is not dimmed by time and tide.
