摘  要

本论文主要研究苔丝的反抗意识，苔丝是哈代笔下的维多利亚时期女性鲜明的代表，她的反抗也代表了那个时代女性在追求真爱和幸福的曲折道路上，只要付出努力总会获得成功。前人主要在苔丝的悲剧原因以及苔丝的性格特征上下了很大功夫，所以本论文结合这两方面的研究中来分析她的反抗意识在对宗教的反抗、对不公平的道德观的反抗，在爱人方面对男权制度的反抗。同时也分析了个人、爱人、家人以及社会原因造成了苔丝的反抗。最后还介绍了当今社会人们在思想和行为上的一些在过去看来是完全不认可的但是现在再平常不过的做法，包括穿衣打扮和婚姻观。研究主要是通过反复阅读原著和相关文献资料来得出自己的观点。

Abstract

This paper analyzes the rebellion on Tess who is the representative of Victoria age in one of Hardy’s work. She proves that one can gain success in pursuing for true love and happiness through insistent efforts no matter how hard it is. Others have already done many woks on analyzing Tess’s personality and the reason of her tragic fate separately, so this paper will combine these together to analyze her rebellion against lovers, religion, and unequal morality. For her lovers, they are Alec and Angle Clare, their strong sense of patriarchy makes Tess have to rebel to them. In the meanwhile, this paper will analyze the reasons which cause her rebellion in term of personality, family element, lovers’ element and social element. At last, this paper will explain some rebellion in our modern society in thoughts and behaviors. They include style of clothes and views of marriage. Since our society develops fast and some thoughts and behaviors became normal which are forbidden entirely in the past. While preparing this paper, I search much information and read them many times to pick up main information which is useful for this paper. Meanwhile, I read the novel for many times to learn Tess and some things about her. Then I combine all these together to finish this paper.

1 Introduction
This paper aims to analyze the rebellion on Tess. The result of Tess’s rebellion is her tragic fate. Tess, a woman who comes from rural area represents the disadvantaged groups in that society. Her rebellion has great representativeness, so working on the rebellion on Tess has great necessity. While analyzing the novel, we can find that her rebellion is caused not only by herself, but also the social environment, her family, and her lovers. These factors affect Tess’s way of thinking and her attitude towards life. There is no doubt that the character of Tess determines her rebellion to the social morality, to lovers and to religion. But, the element of family, social environment and her two lovers affect her as well. In addition, her rebellion involves in many aspects. This paper will analyze and combine the rebellion from various aspects.
