摘　要

《呼啸山庄》是十九世纪中期英国女作家艾米莉•勃朗特的代表作，描绘了十九世纪英国荒原的生活画面，以及维多利亚时代英国的社会主流思想与社会意识形态。这部具有狂野气质的作品，其中蕴含着重要的文学价值以及社会历史价值。本文的研究对象从以往大多数人研究的的男主人公希斯克利夫身上转为以女主人公凯瑟琳的角色为中心，从故事的发生背景出发，展开分析女主人公的一系列心理变化对情节的推动作用，再在此基础上研究究竟是哪些原因导致故事出现那样的结尾，最后做了对如今社会的思考。本文的主要研究方法是分析人物的性格特征以及心理变化。

Abstract

Wuthering Heights was written by a British woman writer Emily Bronte, who portrayed what life was like in the 19th century of British and what the mainstream of social thoughts and social ideology were in Victorian Britain. Such a wild work created in the middle of the 19th century contains great literature value and social historical value. Different from the previous researches which kept the hero Heath cliff as the center of the novel, this article focuses on the heroine Catherine. Starting from the background of the story, this article is aiming to analyze a range of psychological changes of the heroine and to see how these changes help propel the plot. Afterwards, based on the analysis, the novel goes on with the research of what reasons led to the end of the story. In the end, it analyzes the society today. The main research methods are through the analysis of the characters’ personality and psychological changes.

1    Introduction
1.1    Background of the novel

Emily Bronte occupies a unique position in the history of English literature. As a famous novelist, her reputation was completely built on the short length novel--Wuthering Heights. This novel had been widely misunderstood and criticized when published. However, today, if anyone studies English literature without paying attention to this book, his research will be incomplete for the mystery of the imagination and the eternity of artistic charm have never been exceeded. This novel is mostly completed by Emily’s imagination. As a woman who has never been in love, she is more than great to be able to write such a profound novel.
