摘　要


欧亨利是美国二十世纪初一位很有名的短篇小说作家。他一生将近创作了300多部短篇小说，这对世界文学有着深远的影响。他那犀利的讽刺，幽默的语言尤其是那出人意料但又在情理之中的结局总是使得他的作品变得独一无二。他的作品有独特的语言特点，不仅仅从日常生活中选取平凡的素材，更能从平常事件中发掘出主题，从而反映出一定的社会意义。可以说，他每一个短篇故事都是当时社会的一个缩影。因此，他的作品被人称作“美国生活的百科全书”。
本文主要分析了欧亨利短篇小说的语言特点，其中包括了写作技巧，修辞手法，富有技巧的情节，出人意料又在情理之中的结尾和幽默讽刺的语调。然后深入分析欧亨利小说中所反映的人性和现实主义。论文的第一部分对欧亨利以及他的作品做了简要的介绍。欧亨利创作了很多小说，使得他在文化历史上有很大的影响。第二部分介绍了修辞手法和写作风格。欧亨利善于用各种写作技巧来描绘人物的心理。第三部分分析了迂回的故事发展和曲折的结尾。他有能力运用所描绘的情节和严密的结构来创作曲折的结尾。第四部分将研究人性与现实主义。他的作品突出体现了对社会弱势群体的同情，对人类品德的颂扬以及对人类丑恶的揭露。

Abstract


O＇Henry is one of the famous short story writers in America in the early 20th century. He writes more than 300 short stories during his whole life. The sharp satire, humorous languages, especially the unexpected but reasonable ending makes his works unique and popular. His works always have a unique language feature, they are not just choose ordinary material from the daily life, even explore a theme from the ordinary events which can reflect certain social significance. That is to say, each of his short stories is the miniature of the society at that time. Thus, O＇Henry＇s works are praised as the＂Encyclopedia of American life＂．
    This paper mainly pay attention to analyze O' Henry' s language features including writing skills, figure of speech, technique plot ,making surprising but logical ending and humorous and witty tone, then deeply analyzes the humanity and realism reflected in O' Henry' s works. The first part makes a brief introduction to O’ Henry and his works. OHenry creates many stories and had big influence on cultural history. The second part describes the figure of speech and his writing style. O’ Henry is good at characters’ psychological portrayal with kinds of writing skills. The third part analyzes the sinuous development of the stories and twist ending. His has ability to create the twist ending by the plot making and compact structure. The forth part will study humanity and realism. O’ Henry’s sympathy for the poor social underdogs, his eulogy of human virtues and exposure of human evils are highlighted as the keynote of his works.
