Abstract

Willa Cather is an American author who has achieved recognition for her novels of frontier life on the Great Plains. My Antonia is one of her representative works. In this novel, Cather portrays several female characters that are consistent with the fight against male supremacy in the patriarchal society and struggling for their individual identity. Actually the novel is a song of female initiation. This thesis attempts to study My Antonia from the perspective of eco-feminism in a much deep level.
The content of this paper will be divided into five parts. The first part is a brief introduction of Willa Cather and her novel My Antonia. The second part is the emphasis of the theory about eco-feminism, systematically and comprehensively introducing what is this theory and analyzing the eco-feminist consciousness embodied in it. In the third part, it describes the growth of independent pioneer woman which includes three periods. The fourth part focuses on the harmony exists in My Antonia. The novel embodies a harmonious relationship in many aspects, including the harmony between men and women and the harmony between Antonia and nature. The last part is the conclusion. Based upon analysis and explanation, the thesis concludes that My Antonia is a novel with numerous embodiments of eco-feminist consciousness which pursues a harmonious society.

摘 要

维拉•凯瑟是一位美国作家,因为其描写大平原上边疆生活的小说而得到认可。《我的安东尼亚》是她杰出的代表作之一。凯瑟在这本小说中塑造了几位坚持反抗父权社会中男性权威和寻找自我身份的女性人物。这些女性人物在寻找自我身份的过程中，从天真走向成熟，走出困惑并找到了自己的归属地。这本小说实际上谱写了一曲女性成长之歌。本文试图从更深的层次以生态女性主义这个视角来研究这本小说。
论文将分为五个部分。第一个部分是对威拉•凯瑟和小说《我的安东尼亚》的简单介绍。第二部分是对生态女性主义理论的强调，系统、全面地介绍这是什么理论和分析文中体现的生态女性主义意识。第三部分描述了独立拓荒的女人的成长过程，包括人生中的三个阶段。第四部分着重小说中体现的和谐主义。例如，男性和女性，安东尼亚与自然之间的和谐。最后为结论部分，基于前面的分析和解释，《我的安东尼亚》是一篇具有生态女性主义意识以及追求和谐社会的小说。
