Abstract

Sense and Sensibility was a British film shot in 1995, which was adapted from Jane Austen’s novel with the same title. It won the Best Adapted Screenplay of the Oscar Academy Awards in 1996, the Best Motion Picture and the Best Screenplay of Golden Globe Awards, etc. Some studies have already been done on the film. The paper focuses on the changing process of Marianne’s attitude towards love from the perspective of film approaches, in a hope to help the audiences understand the means applied in movies and appreciate the film better.

摘 要

《理智与情感》是一部拍摄于1995年的英国电影，根据奥斯汀的同名小说改编而成。影片曾获1996年奥斯卡最佳改编剧本奖，及金球奖中的最佳影片及最佳剧本等奖项。很多学者均对该片进行过研究。本文旨在从视听角度解读和探究玛丽安的爱情观的转变过程，以期有助观众了解视听语言，更好地欣赏这部杰出的英国影片。

1.    Introduction
Sense and Sensibility was a British film shot in 1995. It was adapted from Jane Austen’s novel with a same title. The film depicted two women who respectively represent sense and sensibility. It won the Best Adapted Screenplay of Oscar Academy Awards in 1996, the Best Motion Picture and the Best Screenplay of Golden Globe Awards, and several nominations, including the Best Cinematograpy and the Best Musical- Original Score. 
Qian Yanqiu pointed out the necessary factors of happy marriage in Sensibility and Sensibility. She said that, “Wealth is the guarantee of a happy marriage, which can be regarded as an essential condition. However, love is a real base of a happy marriage, which can last for a long time.” Liu Xiamin focused on the new type of the heroine, who finally turned from romance to reality. She mainly analyzed Marianne, who dared to fight against the hypocritical social customs, pursue for real love, but finally was defeated by the reality, and became realistic. Yang Xianping centered on the interpretation of Sense and Sensibility from the perspective of feminist. He thought that women who wanted to get the real happiness should change themselves fundamentally. They should make themselves to be strong, treating male with equal vision. Liu Wei, Jin Lihong and Liu Honggang studied Jane Austen’s changing view of marriage from emotion to ration in Sense and Sensibility. They found that the ideal marriage should be the combination of love and wealth in Austen’s heart. Gao Feng analyzed the opposition and harmony of Austen’s view on love. In his opinion, he concluded that sensibility guided by sense is the perfect way to obtain happiness.
