Abstract

David Herbert Lawrence is a controversial English novelist of the 20th century. He objects to the spiritual love and thinks that sex is the human nature and can not be violated. He also opposes the spirit possession in gender relations. His novel “Sons and Lovers” describes the abnormal love between mother and son which is known as Oedipus complex. And it is the first novel to describe this love. The love between the protagonist Paul and his mother, Paul and his two girlfriends, his parents and his brother William and his girlfriend all have a bad ending. The conflicts between spirit and body lead to the tragedy and bring them a lot of pain. Through the research of complex love relationship in this novel, this study aims at indicating that the true love is the perfect combination of spirit and body.

摘 要

英国作家劳伦斯是二十世纪备受争议的作家。他反对精神之爱，认为性行为是人的天性，不可违背。他也反对两性关系一方对另一方的精神占有。他的小说《儿子与情人》描写了母子之间畸形的爱情，也就是众所周知的俄狄浦斯情节。这也是第一部描写母子爱情的小说。男主人公保罗父母之间的爱情，保罗和其母亲和两个女友之间的爱情以及保罗的哥哥威廉和其母亲及女友间的爱情，充分体现了灵与肉的冲突下男女的苦闷和无奈，并导致了悲剧的产生。这些畸形的爱恋给他们带来了巨大的痛苦。通过对小说中各种复杂恋爱关系的探讨，此研究旨在说明真正的爱情是灵与肉的完美结合。

1 Introduction
Love is the forever theme in human society. Love has two types: normal and abnormal. Sons and Lovers is written by David Herbert Lawrence. It describes the leading roles’ various and complex love relation. Among the characters, the conflicts between spirit and body are obvious. They have diverse loves. But till the last, they haven’t got the true love. Some people pursue the spiritual love while others pursue the sensual love. However, in fact, either of them is not true love. The true love is the combination of body and soul. The conflicts between spirit and body will result in a bad ending.
