Abstract and Key Words

Abstract: The first deals with the patient work of the review and nationalism of the analysis, research war of both narrow nationalism. So, reach beyond nationalism in the English patient of his character. From the perspective of transcending nationalism analysis of the English patient for four people in character that the war, the people inside the wound did not submit to having political identity, transcending ethnic nationalism, the extent of the generalized to the humanistic care of them, That is, only when of humankind desires and personal status is acknowledged, when the national and ethnic rivalries no longer be a man between excuse, beyond the possibility of nationalism and universality of the meaning of true. In the English patient, the anchor of the transcendence of narrow nationalism is humanity. Humanity knows no divisions, the sanctity and dignity of every human life, regardless of race, nation or religion, must be honored.

摘要：本文首先论述了英国病人作品的文献回顾以及民族主义的定义分析，延伸研究战争环境下的狭隘民族主义，从而得出超越民族主义在《英国病人》主人公性格上的体现。通过从民族主义视角分析《英国病人》中四个人物体现的性格特点，重点论述了在战争环境下，世界人民内心创伤不甘于政治身份，渴望超越民族主义的心理，这在一定程度上广义的表现为人文关怀，也就是说，只有当人类自身的愿望和个人身份被承认时，当民族和种族不再成为激起人类之间仇杀的借口时，超越民族主义的可能性以及普遍性的意义得以实现。在英国病人中，超越狭隘的民族主义，其实质在于仁慈。仁慈是没有国界的，人类生活的圣洁和尊严，不分民族，宗教和种族，都应该被尊重。

1. Introduction
The English patient is the masterpiece of Ondaatje, and it is the Canadian book to win Britain’s prestigious booker prize in 1992.The film adapted from this original novel won nine Oscars of 1996. In his works, he deals with the problems of identity, history, war, love, nation, race, culture, myth, politic region and so on. The feature of multiplicity in Ondaatje’s works, both form and content, is fully displayed in his masterpiece The English Patient, which calls for increasing critical attention.
