Abstract and Key Words

Abstract: In various works, writers have created many vampire images which have different attitudes towards life and themselves. Based on the studying of the vampire representatives of each era, the thesis summarizes features of human nature from vampire characters to show that the vampire images are reflection of human soul and echo human characters in each era. This study aims to illustrate the positive social significance of vampire images by referencing William Patrick Day’s theory that vampire image reflects human nature, and tends to draw a conclusion that the development of the figure of vampire can cause the self-reflection of human beings.

摘要：在众多作品中，作家们创作出多个对生命和自我拥有不同态度的吸血鬼形象。本文从吸血鬼一开始进入文学领域的形象进行分析，根据对各个时代吸血鬼代表作的研究，总结吸血鬼的性格特征，从中归纳出吸血鬼性格中的人性特点，以此展现吸血鬼形象是人类心灵某一角落的反映，并且与各个时代人类特征相呼应。本文旨在引用威廉•戴的吸血鬼形象反映人性的理论，来阐释吸血鬼形象所蕴含的积极社会意义，以引起人类对自身的反思。

1.    Introduction
1.1 Brief Summary of the Vampire Legend
Vampire legend marks the beginning of vampire literature. The vampire legend goes through the following three stages: the first stage is around the beginning of the fourteenth century, and at that time the vampire legend has been working with other European legends of various ghosts, such as wolves, goblins, dragon and so on. When it comes to the fourteenth century in Europe, the church publicly announces to admit that vampire does exist. The image of vampire first appears in the Bible of Christian. Cain is recognized as the first vampire. The second stage is from the eighteenth century to the nineteenth century. With the formal publication of the works about the vampire legend and the emergence of works about the vampire literature, the vampire legend is popular with all classes. The third stage is from the twentieth century till now. With the scientific and technological development, vampire legend continues to be active in the literature and also enters into areas of other ideologies, such as video, music, clothing, painting, etc. Vampire legend has become a fresh and modern part of social life.
