Abstract and Key Words
Abstract:When Austen began her literary creation, the early feminist tradition was under way in English novels. Austen inherits what is good in female writing and also abandons what is bad. Her keen observation results in her profound thoughts about the problems women are faced with. This is well presented in her novel Emma. The first part briefly introduces Jane Austen’s literary achievements and Emma. The second part discusses feminist ideas in the novel, including her assertion of women’s intellectual power and her radical views on marriage. This paper aims to analyze feminist ideas in the novel by examining the personality of the heroine- Emma and marriage life of other female characters. Readers can know more about feminist ideas in Emma.

1. Introduction
Jane Austen was the youngest daughter of George Austen, rector of the village of Steventon in Hampshire, Where she was born in 1775. She lived with her family at Steventon until they moved to Bath when her father retired in 1801.After her father death in 1805, she moved around with her mother. In 1809, they settled in Clawton. In 1817, Austen was ill. She moved to Winchester to be near her doctor. After two months, she died. Austen never married in her life. Austin never went to regular school. She was educated at home and began to write at an early age .At the age of nine, she was sent to her elder sister’s school with reading. Her elder sister Cassandra is her best friend in her all life. However, Austen’s father has more influence on her education. She was very fond of reading and writing. She began to write as pleasures when she was teens. She wrote her now famous novels on a little table in the family sitting-room. When a visitor entered, she would throw a sheet of paper or a piece of sewing over her work .She read what people in general were reading, that is, the current novels and poems. But whatever she read, she turned to good account. Living a quiet life in the countryside, she kept her eyes steadily upon the people and incidents about her, and wrote about the small world she lived in. She herself compared her work to a fine engraving made upon a little piece of ivory only two inches square. The comparison is true. The ivory surface is small enough, but the woman who made drawings of human life on it is a real artist. Though she was never in touch with professional writes or critics, Jane Austen’s compensations were almost unique.
