Abstract

Northanger Abbey is the first novel that Jane Austen intended to publish. After she finished this book, her thoughts about love and marriage and other things have underwent considerable change owing to the variations in her environment and surroundings. So she revised many places in the book, and finally the book was published after her death. The notions of love and marriage in Northanger Abbey fully illuminates writer's thought about love and marriage at that time，so it is useful for us to have a good knowledge of the social background and the life of the author if we study the characters’ love and marriage in the story, and their views on love and marriage for characters in the story also enlighten modern readers how to make choices when they suffer from from love and marriage problems .

摘        要

《诺桑觉寺》是简•奥斯汀打算出版的第一部小说，作品完成一段时间之后，简•奥斯汀根据自身十多年的思想观念的变化，将此书作了重大修改，历经几番周折，最后该书在她死后才得以出版。《诺桑觉寺》中描写的爱情婚姻关系充分诠释了作者当时的婚恋观，因此了解当时的社会背景以及作者的生活背景对研究本文中人物的婚恋观有着积极意义。其中婚姻、道德与金钱观等多方面表现了作者及那个时代普遍存在的理性主义思想，对当今社会以及现代人的爱情和婚姻的选择仍然具有启示意义和借鉴作用。
