Abstract
Wuthering Heights is the only novel of Emily Bronte, the famous British writer in the 19th century. It was this book that established her position in the British history of literature. Through a tragedy of a love story, the novel showed us a picture of the distorted social life and the distorted humanity caused by the society and a series of sad stories. The writer reflected what the society was like at that time by the exploration of humanity. The subject was strengthened by the interplay of two narrators in the macro aspect and by the use of foregrounding language in the micro aspect. Foregrounding language is an important feature of literature language, and as an important concept in stylistics, foregrounding language played an important part in the analysis of literature. During the creation of works, the writer fore grounded some language intentionally. Systematic and coherent fore grounded language helps readers understand the subject of the novel. This essay, based on the foregrounding theory, tries to analyze the foregrounding language of Wuthering Heights and strengthen the understanding of the subject and the main characters.

Chapter 1 Introduction
1.1 A Brief Introduction of Emily Bronte
Emily Bronte was an English novelist and poet, now best remembered for her only novel, Wuthering Heights, which is a classic of English literature. Emily was the second eldest of the three surviving Bronte sisters, between Charlotte and Anne. Born in a poor family, Emily once went to a boarding school with her sisters and when she grew up, she tried to found a school but failed. Because of her poor family and living experiences, she formed the characters of introversion and quietness, which, to some extent, can be reflected by her works. Since she was young, she has had a deep interest in writing. Besides of the novel, Wuthering Heights, she had written many poems. She was regarded as one of the most talented female writers in the history of English literature.
