The Analysis of Dick’s Spiritual Changes through Conversations in Tender Is the Night

Abstract
The novel Tender Is the Night is another masterpiece of the reputable American writer F.S.K Fitzgerald after his most popular book the Great Gatsby. It applies the love affairs of the young men and women as the mainline of the plot and is based on the background of the social life at that time to display the decadence of the Jazz Age and the collapse of the American Dream, in which the hero Dick is one of the most representative characters. The author is going to base the thesis on the main content of the novel and take the theme of it as the main idea, the conversations as the resource, from which the author analyzes the spiritual change of hero Dick, for example, from the complacency after entering the upper class to the later depression and senescence. He was even at the edge of breakdown after his wife’s departure due to his entanglement with actress Rosemary. The thesis is aimed at further revealing the theme of the novel through the analysis mentioned above.
