摘要

通过分析艾米丽.勃朗特的《呼啸山庄》我们可以看到书中的男主人公希斯克利夫是一个备受争议的人，他的性格形成原因是被人热议的对象。热衷于复仇的希斯克利夫，他的心中充满着残忍、暴力、自私。所以他被人成为邪恶的象征。在他追逐那段完美的爱情的过程过遇到了很多挫折，在他忍气吞声安静地反抗那不公平的命运时，他也遇到了难以忍受的痛苦。现实让他一步一步还原了正常的人性。一些评论家认为希斯克利夫的行为是对他那不公平的待遇正常的反应，然而另外一些评论家认为希斯克利夫是一个极端复仇主义，残忍、嗜血和不道德的人。但是通过分析我们可以得出结论：希斯克利夫的悲剧命运不是完全由于自己造成的，而更大的原因在于这个社会之中的等级观念，金钱观等等。

Abstract

Through an analysis of Wuthering Heights, a well-known work written by Emily Bronte, the characteristics of Heathcliff and how they are formed are discussed. Addicted in vengeance, the hero Heathcliff is also full of brutality, selfishness, violence and is regarded as the symbol of devil. He encountered many obstacles in the process of pursuing ideal love and his silent struggling with unfair fate. The reality made him depart from natural humanity step by step. Some critics regard Heathclff’s behaviors a natural response to his unfair treatment, yet still many other critics consider Herthcliff a devil and his revenge is not only cruel and blood-thirsty, but totally amoral. However, through a deep study, we can draw the conclusion that Heathcliff’s tragedy is not just directed by himself, but also the contributions of the society(hierarchical conception and money worship).

Emily Bronte, a talented writer with a vein of stoicism and mysticism in her personality, established her great reputation by her only novel Wuthering Heights which was published in 1847 but not gained immediate literal position until a half century later. Now it is widely considered by many as a great book. Unlike other great writers, Emily restricted most of her life in Yorkshire but her passion was never restricted. In Wuthering Heights, she reveals her intense awareness of conflict and gives the powerful expression of passion, anguish and revenge. Even Maugham speak highly of it that “I don't know to still have which novel among them pain and sufferings of the love, be addicted to, ruthlessness, Persist, described ever and thus and astonishingly.”. In the novel Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte composed a gothic romance, which mainly focuses on the themes of revenge, spiritual feelings between the main characters, obsession, selfishness and responsibility. " it is a compound of vulgar depravity and unnatural horrors...".
