摘要

戴•赫•劳伦斯是20世纪文坛上最独特同时也是最具有争议的作家之一。他的文学作品主要反映了他对性，男女关系，工业社会，理想社会的重建等具有深刻意义的主题的认识与探索。《查特莱夫人的情人》就是劳伦斯关注那些主题的最经典的代表作品之一。
小说主要讲述了女主公查特莱夫人义无反顾地与他的丈夫克利福德决裂，不顾一切地追求自由和幸福，与她丈夫的猎场守护人梅勒士相爱的故事。该小说中的克利福德是个一战中受伤而下半身瘫痪的贵族。在工业社会大环境的影响下，他为人冷漠，只迷恋金钱和权力。而梅勒士却恰恰相反，他不受社会环境的的污染，坚守自己理想的生活原则，充满了人性的温柔和温暖。国内外有许多关于该小说的研究。它们要么研究范围片面要么就只从小说主角的视角研究，过于传统。而本论文将采用文本分析的方式从探讨小人物鲍尔顿夫人在该小说中结构和内容上的作用入手，使读者认识到小人物在推动小说情节发展的重要作用及从其独特视角观察小说中工业社会人们物质精神生活的方方面面从而更加了解生活在工业化时代的人们以及当时的社会。
除介绍和结尾部分外，该论文被分为两部分。第一部分主要简要分析鲍尔顿夫人在该小说结构上的重要作用。第二部分将主要从鲍尔顿夫人与小说人物交往过程所产生的态度来进一步了解小说人物及其表现的背后原因以便进一步了解小说主题。第二部分又分为三个小部分。第一部分分析鲍尔顿夫人对克利福德既崇拜顺从又鄙视憎恨的复杂态度及其背后的个人及社会原因-克利福德肉体及精神的堕落和工业社会大环境的影响。第二部分主要分析鲍尔顿夫人在当地矿工面前总感到高人一等的态度及其背后的原因。第三部分主要分析鲍尔顿夫人对查特莱夫人的态度，由于其个人经历及女性主义的影响，她对发现查特莱夫人的情人就是梅勒士感到可耻但同时对查特莱夫人给予同情与理解。

Abstract

D.H Lawrence is one of the most unique and controversial writers in the 20th century. His literature works mainly deal with themes of sexuality, relationship between women and men, industrial society, construction of an ideal society etc. Lady Chatterley’s lover is one of Lawrence’s most classic novels which are concerned with those themes.
The novel tells the story of Lady Chatterley who strives to break free from her aristocratic husband Clifford, a cold impotent man who is obsessed with perusing money and power under the influence of the industrial society, to marry her husband’s game-keeper Olive Mellors who is full of tenderness and warmth and able to stick to his own way of ideal life without the contamination of the then society. Many studies have been carried out both home and abroad, but the scope of their studies is not wide and complete enough. Some scholars have studied this novel by analyzing protagonists which is too traditional. This thesis will analyze the role of Mrs. Bolton in Lady Chatterley’s lover by text analysis, through which small character Mrs. Bolton’s significance in developing the novel will be illustrated and also people’s material and spiritual life in the industrial society will be observed from her unique perspective, thus better understanding of the then people and society will be achieved.
Apart from the part of introduction and conclusion, the thesis is divided into two parts. The first part will simply analyze the significance of Mrs. Bolton in the novel’s structure. The second part will mainly analyze Mrs. Bolton’s attitudes towards the characters in this novel so as to further understand the characters and the novel’s themes. The second part will be further divided into three parts. The first part is Mrs. Bolton’s attitude towards Clifford which contains both admiration and despise and the reasons behind– degradation of Clifford and Industrial society. The third part will analyze Mrs. Bolton’s superior attitude towards colliers and the causes. The fourth part will mainly focus on Mrs. Bolton’s defiant but understanding attitudes towards Lady Chatterley and the reasons- her personal experience and feminism in her.
