摘要

安东尼亚•苏珊•拜厄特是当今英国文坛一颗耀眼的星。在1990年,她的《占有:一段罗曼史》出版。自从该书问世以来,便受到了无数的关注与赞美。在书中包含了多元状分散陈列的诸多文本,兼容收蓄以各个人物的视角出发写作的神话诗歌、童话、书信、日记、文学评论等形式题材各异的文本。其中单从篇幅而言,诗歌占据着小说相当重要的位置。这些文本相互组合构成了一个庞大的互文关系网络:从一方面讲,众声交汇的多元叙述使传统的因果顺序产生的叙述可读理念受到了挑战;另一方面,文本的相互作用使意义产生流动,难以确定把握。
    对《占有》的互文性研究不仅可以帮助我们清楚了解其结构,并能帮助我们对其文本之外的含义有更清晰地认识。后者我们可以从罗兰和莫德发现了阿舍得信稿从而揭开了一段不为人知的罗曼史中最直观的感觉到。
    抓住互文性,特别是隐藏的互文,最关键的一点是找到它的类型和特点。互文性表现为两种类型的文本之间的关系:其一为“共存关系(甲文出现于乙文中)”;其二为“派生关系(甲文在乙文中被重复和转换)”。共存关系意味着两篇或几篇文本共存,不经变动的原文吸收置入当前文本,后者则强调一种转化和吸收。从互文性的角度,特别是互文性的第二个角度对《占有:一段罗曼史》进行分析对理解其主旨有非常大的帮助。从小说每章节前的文本和每章主要内容的关系,小说中引用的阿舍的作品对罗兰和莫德的影响,以及互文性的文本到互文性的关系的转变,得到小说的主旨,即爱情是人生中不可或缺的部分。

Abstract

Antonia Susan Byatt is a very shining star in the present British literature arena. In 1990, Byatt’s Possession: A Romance came out. Ever since its publication, it has attracted a lot of attention and admiration. Byatt produced a huge number of scattered but closely-related poems, letters, prose, fables and fairy tales which were meant to be written by different characters in this novel, and poems took a very impressive length and played a very important role in it. The application of these texts has formed a complicated intertextual relationship: on one hand, this kind of multi-narration, which is different from the traditional cause-effect sequences, challenged the readers’ visual concept; on the other hand, the interaction of the texts make the meanings become floating and hard to control.
The research on the intertextuality of Possession not only can make us be clear of its original structure, but also can help us understand the abundant meaning outside the texts. The latter point can be seen in the novel, Roland and Maud discovered the secret love of the two Victorian poets by studying the relations of their scattered poems and other texts and presented us an unknown romance.
The critical way to identify intertexuality, especially the very hidden ones, is to grasp its features and types. There are two representations of intertexuality: one is co-existing, the other is deriving. The former one emphasizes on one text being in another text, it means that two or more texts being absorbed in the present texts as they are, for example, the preface, quotation and works cited. The latter one emphasizes on one text being repeated and converted in another one. It will be very helpful to analyze Possession: A Romance’s theme from the point of intertextuality, especially from the second meaning of it. It is from the relations betweeen each pretext and its main content, the influence of Ash’s works on Roland and Maud and the transition from the intertextual texts to intertextual relations that the novel’s theme is gained, that is “romance” is a necessary part of people’s life.
