1 Introduction
Considered a powerful writer of literary world, Doris (May) Lessing has become the most widely recognized and most seriously contemporary woman novelist, especially since she won The Nobel Prize for Literature of 2007. A British novelist John west once said “I can not imagine people who read modern fiction have no idea of the importance of Doris Lessing’s works.”
She was born in Kermanshah, Persia (now Iran) on October 22, 1919. Both of her parents were British: her father, who had been crippled in World War I, was a clerk in the Imperial Bank of Persia; his mother had been a nurse. Doris moved with her family to the British Colony in Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) in 1925 as her father was disillusioned with business life in the East and lured by a seemingly golden opportunity for a promising life in Rhodesia where cheap lands were offered.
