ABSTRACT
Virginia Woolf has an epoch-making position in the western feminist thought. Her novel To the Lighthouse is the typical one about her feminist thought, and it is this novel to make her stand on the peak of success. The paper is to analyze her feminist thought in the novel.
The thesis is mainly divided into two sections. The first part is going to introduce Virginia Woolf’s feminist thought and her feminism values. Virginia Woolf’s feminist thought contains the “negative education” and strive for the women’s employment rights. She believes that women can get the real freedom and independence only when they have the equal education and employment rights with men. The next part focuses on Virginia Woolf’s feminist value. One is her Androgynous thought. She thinks we should set up a new relationship between male and female, in that situation men and women live in a different way but in harmony. The other one is to realize women’s values. In her eyes, if women want to be free and independent, they have to experience two adventures—“killing the “angel in the house” and express themselves. Besides they also need to develop their special creativity. The last part of the paper is to analyze Virginia Woolf’s feminist thought in “to the light house”. The thesis demonstrates her feminist thought from the two female characters, Lily and Mrs.Ramsay. And Lily is the embodiment of Woolf in the novel; we can see Woolf’s extraordinary life and her striving for the ideal.
