Abstract

The 16th American president Abraham Lincoln once commented that Uncle Tom’s Cabin triggered the American civil war. It is a meaningfully made story about Tom and the couple, Eliza and George and through the vivid descriptions of the characters of the heroes.
 This thesis begins with the different characteristics of Tom and the couple , analyzing their choices made facing being trade by slave owners or being abused as well as the reasons they make their choices. Then the paper analyzes their characters through the interpretation of their words, dialogues and what they have done. Then the passage goes deeper into the obedience and rebel of the three through the analysis of their different choices in the same context and the reasons behind that. The final part is the view of the present writer and the conclusion.
In this paper, I will fully demonstrate the different character traits of the main protagonists: a loyal and obedient Christian- Uncle Tom, Eliza and her husband who both had a mighty spirit of rebel and sought for freedom. At the same time, the reasons why different black slaves had different character traits will be elaborated and a point will come out that obedient Tom who was always at the mercy of his master hardly avoided a miserable destiny while it was lucky for Eliza and George to gain a new life after tough rebels and struggles.
This paper adopts empirical analysis and when the choices and actions of the main protagonists are taken into consideration, it is easy to arrive at two perspectives: one is that no matter which we choose, rebel or obedience, we should be responsible for the people around us, the other that obedience is another form of peaceful rebel. The purpose of this thesis is to tell us that as a member in the society, our choices made and what we do affect others and we should not only be responsible for others, but also be aware of the fact that violence and rebel can get us to our goal, so can peaceful rebel.

摘要

亚伯拉罕•林肯曾评价《汤姆叔叔的小屋》引发了一场南北战争。在本文中主要通过一系列的细节展示主要人物的性格特征，着力阐释导致接受奴隶主灌输的基督教精神、诚实忠心的黑奴汤姆和具有反抗主义精神、极力争取自由的黑奴伊丽莎和她的丈夫乔治的性格形成原因，并通过他们各自的命运告诉人们：逆来顺受、听从奴隶主摆布的汤姆难逃死亡的悲惨命运，而敢于反抗敢于斗争的乔治夫妇得到了不易的新生。
本课题以研究《汤姆叔叔的小屋》中汤姆叔叔和乔治夫妇的不同性格特征为切入点，分析他们在面对奴隶主买卖或虐待时所做的选择（服从或反抗）以及所做选择背后的原因。
另外在对《汤姆叔叔的小屋》中主人翁汤姆叔叔和乔治夫妇的言行进行分析，表明他们各自的性格特征。

本文同时采用例证分析法，通过对主要人物的所做的选择和行动分析，传达本文的两个主要观点：1.不管是服从还是反抗，我们的所作所为都要对身边的人负责；2.服从其实是一种和平的反抗。本课题的研究意义在于告诫后人作为一个社会人,我们的言行决策关系着其他人.在秉着对他人负责的精神的同时,我们也应知道并不只是暴力和反抗才能达到最后的目的,和平解决不失为一个绝佳的办法。
