Abstract

    Pride and Prejudice, the masterpiece of Jane Austen, demonstrates us the author’s unique views on marriage, through four marriages in the novel. This paper aims to analyze the marital relations in the novel and the foundations of a happy marriage. It ends with the conclusion that love and good characters are both the foundation of a perfect relationship, demonstrated by the happy endings of the marriage of Mr.Bingley and Jane, Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth.

   《傲慢与偏见》是简•奥斯汀的代表作。 在这部作品中，作者通过描述五桩婚姻，向读者诠释了她独特的婚姻观。这篇论文通过分析作品中四桩婚姻关系，探讨幸福婚姻的基石——爱情相互理解好是美满永久关系的基石。

1.    Introduction
    As an English novelist, Jane Austen is renowned for her romantic fictions. The realism reflected in her novels and the piercing comments on social issues distinguish her from her peer writers, establishing her significant status among critics and scholars. What’s more, her works are most widely read in English Literature. However, when Jane Austen was alive, her works brought her no fame. In late 18th century and early 19th century, when Jane Austen lived, the Industrial Revolution was flourishing in England. As a result, Charles Dickens’s works, which is the greatest mirror of such a great time, attracted most attention then. It was not until 1869, when A Memoir of Jane Austen was published, that the public became familiar with Jane Austen.
