1.1 Doris Lessing and her Literary Works
Doris Lessing (1919-2013) is one of the most distinguished English literature writers in the 20th century for her unceasingly innovative works. She has gained her reputation since the first novel The Grass Is Singing published. She has received many famous awards for literature, including the Somerset Maugham Award, the David Cohen British Literary Prize and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. She is the 11th woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature on October 11, 2007. The Swedish Academy in award words said that the reason of Lessing’s wining the prize is “she is the epicist of the female experience, who with skepticism, fire and visionary power has subjected a divided civilization to scrutiny.” Due to her great contribution to English literature, Lessing is regarded as one of the greatest female writers after Virginia Woolf.
Doris Lessing is a productive writer. She has produced more than twenty novels, fourteen poems, eleven collections of short stories and four plays. Her works’ features are always changed in different stages.
