Abstract:
A Tale of Two Cities is a novel written by Charles Dickens, which is set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution. The novel describes the tortuous experiences of the Manette family and the couple of Darnay and Lucy. It depicts the plight of the French peasantry demoralized by the French aristocracy in the years leading up to the revolution. This paper is to analyze two views of love reflected in A Tale of Two Cities-one is sharing weal and woe embodied by Darnay and Lucy; the other is to love is selfless sacrifice embodied by Carton towards Lucy. From the above analysis, we may from a sharper understanding of what is true love.

摘要:
《双城记》是英国作家查尔斯•狄更斯所著的一部以法国大革命为背景所写成的长篇历史小说。小说描述了梅尼特一家以及达雷和露西夫妇的经历。反映了在贵族压迫与残害下,人民对贵族的不满导致大革命的产生。本论文旨在分析《双城记》中的两种爱情观。其一是达雷与露西之间遇到困难时不离不弃,同甘共苦的爱情观;其二是律师卡顿对露西的无私奉献的爱情观。通过对以上两种爱情观的分析,我们队什么是真正的爱会有更为深刻的感悟。

1. Introduction
1.1 An Introduction of to-Charles Dickens
Charles John Huffam Dickens was an English writer and social critic.He was born on Feb. 7, 1812 in Portsmouth, Hampshire and died on June 9, 1870 in Gad's Hill, near Chatham. As a novelist, he was generally regarded as the greatest of the Victorian period. A turning point happened in Dickens's life when he was 12 years old. Dickens was forced to leave school to work in a factory when his father was thrown into debtors' prison. This sensitive boy was deeply influenced by the experience. Although he went back to school at 13, his formal education ended when he was 15 years old. At the beginning, he worked as a reporter. His career as a novelist started with short pieces reprinted as Sketches by “Boz” (1836). He became good at writing a story in an entertaining manner and the serialization of his comic novel When the Pickwick Papers with this high quality was published in 1837, within a few years Charles Dickens became famous in England author of his time. The serial works as Oliver Twist (1838) and The Old Curiosity Shop was published in 1841.
