Abstract:

Daddy-Long-Legs is one of American woman writer Jean Webster's best-known works. The heroine’s image of perseverance, pursue of freedom and independence, and maintenance of female authority has invariably been explored. However, the unique technique of characterization of multiple contradictory distinctly existed in Judy’s character is the fascination that makes the work popular and enduring. The work deeply embodies the aesthetic qualities consisting in contradictions.
The thesis includes five chapters. The first chapter is an overview of the writer and the main content of the novel. Chapter two presents literature review and thesis statements. Chapter three delves into four contradictory phenomena existed in personal character. Chapter four explores reasons why this kind of multiple contradictory forms in Judy and get the conclusion that this complicated character is believable and coherent in the last chapter. The article aims to reassert Judy’s artistic feature of binary opposition as a keynote in characterization, which not only facilitates better understanding of Jean Webster’s literary techniques but also embodies the aesthetic qualities consisting in contradictions and provides useful references for appreciating the aesthetics of contradictions.

摘要：

《长腿叔叔》是美国著名女作家简韦伯斯特主要作品中的一部。学术界对于书中女主人公朱蒂不屈不挠，追求独立自由以及维护女性权威的形象进行了发掘。然而朱蒂性格上明显存在着的多对矛盾对立这一独具特色的人物塑造技巧却是使这部作品更受人欢迎并经久不衰的魅力。作品极为深刻地表现了人物自身所体现出来的诸多矛盾对立现象。
全文一共分为五章，第一章概览作家及其作品的主要内容。第二章给出文献综述和论文论点。第三章集中分析讨论小说中选取的人物性格中存在的四对矛盾对立现象。第五章探讨朱蒂性格中多对矛盾形成的原因以及这种矛盾性格是可信并为读者所接受的。文章旨在证明矛盾对立是人物塑造艺术中的一个核心特色，这不仅有助于读者更加确切地把握简韦伯斯特的文学创作，而且也揭示了包含于矛盾之中的美学品质，使人们欣赏生活中的矛盾美。
