Abstract：

Most women described in The Great Gatsby are beautiful and charming ,but they are selfish, cold, hollow, materialistic, and even parasitic. They have no positive images and are served as a foil to men’s images. This thesis aims to explore the causes of the tragic life of Daisy based on the analysis on the author's own experience and the background of that era . Her unethical images and tragic life are connected with patriarchal society closely. She is the victim of that society.

作品《了不起的盖茨比》里的女性都是很美丽的，迷人的，但是她们自私，肤浅，冷酷，虚伪，很物质，甚至依附于男人而生活，她们没有积极的正面形象，常常被用来衬托男性的伟大。或许她们的存在就是一种衬托。本论文通过作者的生活经历和社会背景来分析黛西的悲剧生活形成的原因，她的悲惨生活以及不道德的形象与父权社会密切相关，她是社会的悲剧生产物。

1.    Introduction                       
The Great Gatsby is the novel written by the famous American writer, F.Scott Fitzgerald.The writer tells us a story : Nick Carroway, who lives on the island of West Egg, is next door to a mysterious man named Gatsby and becomes friends with him. He learns that Gatsby is in love with Daisy and they have an affair. Tom, Daisy’s husband, who is suspicious of this, makes Daisy find out that Gatsby gets his money through bootlegging. Then, Daisy is at the wheel when the car hits someone coincidentally. It is Gatsby takes the blame for Daisy and dies alone. However, no one shows up to his funeral except for Nick and his father.
