摘 要
   
艾米丽•布朗特是19世纪英国著名的小说家、诗人，她唯一的作品《呼啸山庄》在文学界受到了高度的好评，同时，全世界文学评论家从不同的角度对她的作品做出了评论。哥特这种艺术风格主要体现在建筑、美术和文学。这篇论文从主题，人物和环境的角度对呼啸山庄中的哥特因素进行了仔细分析。哥特主题通常包括复仇和爱情悲剧，而哥特人物则经常被塑造成双重人格。在哥特背景中，阴暗的山庄，恐怖的建筑和环境时有出现。基于哥特主题，人物和环境的理论，本论文分析了呼啸山庄中的哥特运用，同时也引起了对人性和社会问题的探索。爱情悲剧和双重人格体现了矛盾的人性而复仇和哥特的背景则表现了当代的种族歧视、阶级观念和环境过度开发导致的精神匮乏。这篇论文的目的是通过研究哥特运用，让读者对呼啸山庄这部作品有更好的理解。

ABSTRACT
   
Emily Bronte is a famous British novelist and poet in the 19th century. Her unique work Wuthering Heights is regarded highly in academic field and is commented from different points of view by critics all over the world. This paper analyzes the gothic applications of theme, character and setting in Wuthering Heights. The gothic theme always includes the revenge and love tragedy while the gothic character is often modeled as duplicity. The gothic setting involves gloomy castle and horrible buildings and environment. The research of gothic application in Wuthering Heights also explores humanity and social problems. The love tragedy and the duplicity reflects the contradictory human nature while the revenge and setting show the social problems such as racial discrimination, class consciousness and the lack of spirit because of the over exploitation of resources. The purpose of this paper is to show the charm of gothic novel and enable readers to have a better understanding of Wuthering Heights.
