Abstract: It’s widely known that Voss is one of the representative works of Patrick White who is the first Australian Nobel Prize winner. His works have had great influence on Australian literary and even the whole world literary. Unexceptionally, Voss has drawn worldwide attention and brought about lots of discussion both at home and abroad. The paper is mainly concerned on the tragical sense of Voss from three respects. Firstly, his Platonic love with Laura which makes them miserable is bound to be excluded from the mainstream society. Secondly, the irreconcilable clashes of expedition members and the racial conflicts between whites and aboriginals result in the failure of expedition. Thirdly, the divine disillusioned is an indication of the loss of Voss’s faith. In a word, Voss is modeled as a tragical hero in this novel, whose spirit of adventure has inspired the Australian to keep forging ahead on this ancient continent.

摘要: 众所周知《探险家沃斯》是首位获得诺贝尔奖的澳大利亚作家——帕特里克•怀特的代表作。他的作品对于澳大利亚文坛乃至整个世界都有着很大的影响，毫无例外地，《探险家沃斯》吸引了全世界的关注并带来了很多讨论。此文主要从三方面探讨了小说的悲剧意义。首先是沃斯和劳拉的柏拉图式爱情使他们备受痛苦也注定了遭到主流社会的排斥；然后是探险成员间无法协调的人性冲突和白人和土著黑人间的种族冲突导致了探险之旅以悲剧收场；最后沃斯神性的幻灭象征了小说的信仰悲剧。总之，沃斯在小说中是一位悲剧式的英雄，他的冒险精神也激励着一代代的澳大利亚人在他们古老的大陆上积极进取。
