Abstract

The Pavilion of Women is written by Pearl S. Buck，a very famous American female writer who has particular interest in Chinese culture and loves telling Chinese stories. She has a series of works about Chinese people, among which The Pavilion of Women is a typical one to describe a traditional Chinese family and the women living there. The description of the women in the novel is pretty vivid, especially about Madam Wu’s awakening of soul. This essay focuses on the four main female characters in the novel, including Madam Wu and her three daughters-in-law, and interprets these characters from the perspective of eco-feminism. Madam Wu is the typical woman to pursue freedom and keep intimate relationship with surroundings. Meng is the victim of the patriarchy, devoting herself to her husband and children. The other wives of the sons are different in that they try to protect themselves in marriage and pursue the equality with men.

摘要

《群芳亭》是著名美国作家赛珍珠女士的作品。赛珍珠热衷于中国文化，善于讲述关于中国人的故事并著有一系列的相关作品。其中，《群芳亭》为典型的描述中国传统大家庭和其中女人们的故事的小说。小说栩栩如生地阐述了庭院中的女人的故事，尤其是主人公吴太太的思想的觉醒。本文通过对《赛珍珠》主要人物吴太太和其三个儿媳妇的性格点分析，利用生态女性主义观点对其进行解读。小说的女主角吴太太的形象很好地诠释了生态女性化主义的观点，她向往自由和独立，与周围的环境保持着亲密的关系。她的大儿媳妇蒙则是男权社会的受害者，屈从于丈夫和家庭，没有主见和追求的家庭妇女。而另外的两个儿媳妇却有着另一种心态和追求。她们有文化，追求男女平等，在婚姻中努力保护自己。
