Abstract

     Jane Austen (1775-1817), an English female novelist, was known for her feminist points of view in her stories about women. She was the first important woman novelist of English literature as well. Her novels were very popular at that time for the brand-new female characters.
Persuasion was her last finished novel. This novel describes a tortuous love story of Miss Anne Elliot, a member of the aristocracy， and a young naval officer， Frederick Wentworth. Austen’s feminist consciousness can be found not only in the theme of this novel but also in its strategy of free indirect speech. This paper will first analyze the feminist elements in the relationship between Anne (the heroine) and Wentworth (the hero) and then try to reveal how the unique strategy of free indirect speech help to show Austen’s feminist thoughts. This strategy is a powerful instrument of expressing feminist ideology and it’s also the foundation of the awareness of feminist consciousness in the 20th century.

摘  要

女性小说家简•奥斯丁以从女性视角来讲述故事而闻名。她也是英国文学史上第一位著名的女性作家。她在小说中所塑造的全新女性形象在当时非常受欢迎。
    《劝导》是简•奥斯丁最后一部完成的小说。《劝导》描述了一个发生在贵族小姐安妮•埃利奥特与青年军官温特沃思之间的历经磨难的曲折爱情故事。为了解析奥斯丁的女性意识，本文从主题和写作策略两个角度对《劝导》进行研究。这两方面都是奥斯丁表达女性意识的有力手段。文章首先分析小说主题，即女主人公安妮和男主人公温特沃斯的关系，其次分析小说中运用的独特的表达方式--自由间接引语。这种写作策略不仅是有效的表达女性主义思想的工具，而且为二十世纪女性意识觉醒奠定了基础。
