Abstract

Charles Dickens is an outstanding novelist of critical realism in British of the 19th century. One of his representative work Hard Times reflects his understanding and concern about the society and people in the 18th and 19th century after the Industrial Revolution. This novel shows the society moral status and social picture of British bourgeois by the vivid description of real life and meticulous characterization, forcefully exposing and criticizing the damage caused by the utilitarianism to human nature.
This thesis mainly deals with Charles Dickens’s writing technique in Hard Times from three aspects: firstly, it introduces the literary review of Charles Dickens and Hard Times; secondly, it analyses the writing techniques in Hard Times, including the dramatic technique in the layout of Hard Times, the characterization in Hard Times and the satire in Hard Times; thirdly, it summarizes the significance of the effects of the writing technique in Hard Times. Finally, the thesis comes to the conclusion that Dickens gives us more concrete and comprehensive description of the story by using all writing skills, and at the mean time, they can convey the writer’s idea and feelings to us more easily. In a word, writing technique is a good way to express the author’s intention, and it’s the intrinsic factor of literature artistic construction.

摘 要

查尔斯•狄更斯,19世纪英国杰出的批判现实主义小说家。他的代表作《艰难时世》反映了他对18，19世纪“工业革命”之后的社会和人民的理解。这部小说通过生动的描写和细致的刻画再现了英国资产阶级的社会道德状况和社会现实生活,有力地揭露和批判功利主义对人性的伤害。
本文从三个方面浅析了查尔斯•狄更斯的写作技巧，第一部分介绍查尔斯•狄更斯和《艰难时世》的文学背景；第二部分浅析了《艰难时世》中的写作技巧，包括查尔斯的小说在谋篇布局上具有戏剧化的特点；查尔斯的小说的人物刻画以及查尔斯的小说充满了调味性的讽刺意义。本文将结合《艰难时世》，具体分析查尔斯的以上写作特色；最后得出结论,狄更斯通过使用上面提到的这些写作技巧给了我们更具体和全面的故事描述，同时，我们可以更容易理解作者想要表达的想法和感受。总之，写作技巧是用来表达作者的意图和建设文学艺术的一个很好的内在因素。
