Abstract

    With the fast development of the modern society, especially the economy and technology, more and more people tend to focus more on material well-being instead of spiritual wealth. Nowadays we are trying to build a harmonious society. While lacking the Modern Benevolence Spirit has become one of the issues for building a harmonious society.
Modern Benevolence Spirit has been researched for a long time, such as Confucius in his Confucianism, David Hume in his An Inquiry Concerning The Principles of Morals.With the French and English society of 18th century as the background, A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens mainly shows the Modern Benevolence Spirit through a story about Doctor Manette, people around him and what they have experienced during the 18th century. From the research before, we can only know that the benevolence spirit mainly means people should be considerate, help others, treasure lives and love nature, which is an invaluable spiritual wealth in modern society. However, the research about the significance and social practice of the Modern Benevolence Spirit in the modern society is not enough.
This thesis mainly deals with the Modern Benevolence Spirit and the significance of it in modern society through analyzing main characters in this novel from four aspects. Firstly, it introduces and analyzes the author Charles Dickens and this novel including the backgrounds. Secondly, it explains the Modern Benevolence Spirit covering the meaning and social practice. Thirdly, it analyzes the main characters to show the Benevolence Spirit. Fourthly, it points out the significance of the Benevolence Spirit. Finally, it comes to the conclusion that in modern society people must pay more attention to the spiritual wealth, especially the Modern Benevolence Spirit, to promote the building of a harmonious society.

摘  要

随着现代社会的飞速发展，尤其是在经济和科技方面，越来越多的人更倾向于注重物质财富而不是精神财富。在我们努力建设和谐社会的今天，缺乏现代仁爱精神现在已经成为其中一个不利于建设和谐社会的问题。
很久之前就有研究者做过关于现代仁爱精神的研究分析，比如孔子在他的儒家思想中关于仁爱精神的研究，大卫•休谟 在他的《道德研究原则》中的仁爱思想。查尔斯•狄更斯的《双城记》主要以十八世纪的英国和法国社会作为背景，通过讲述马内特医生和他周围的人在十八世纪所经历的一切来展示他们所体现的现代仁爱精神。从之前的研究，我们只能明白现代仁爱精神主要指为他人着想，帮助他人，珍爱生命和热爱大自然的精神品质。这是我们现代社会一种无价的精神财富。然而，关于仁爱精神在现代社会的意义和实践的研究却有所缺乏。本文主要通过介绍分析小说中主要人物来展示现代仁爱精神并分析现代仁爱精神在现代社会中的意义。
本篇论文主要通过分析在这篇小说中的主要角色和描述在小说中十八世纪的法国和英国社会的人们所经历的事情来展示分析现代仁爱精神及其在现代社会中的意义。第一部分介绍和分析作者查尔斯•狄更斯,其作品以及它们的背景知识。第二部分主要解释现代仁爱精神包括它的含义和社会实践。第三部分通过分析主要角色展示现代仁爱精神。第四部分指出现代仁爱精神的意义。最后得出结论在现代社会人们必须更注重精神财富一些，尤其是现代仁爱精神，这样才能促进和谐社会的建成。
