Abstract

The novel The Kite Runner is the Afghanistan American writer Khaled Hosseini’s debut, which not only describes the growth of the two Afghan teenagers Amir and Hassan, but also gives a sketch of the religious, racial and social situation of Afghanistan. Since the novel was first published in 2003, it has brought a great repercussion and has moved thousands of readers.
This paper focuses on Hassan’s tragedy. Through the exploration of the historical and social background of the story, this paper puts forward a cause analysis of Hassan’s tragedy, combined with a discussion of the religious and racial conflict in Afghan society and the good and evil of human beings. It attempts to decode the society and culture of Afghanistan, so as to lend a more comprehensive and profound interpretation of this novel as well as its influence to the readers. This paper can be divided into three parts. Firstly, it gives a brief review of the experiences of the author Khaled Hosseini and the novel The Kite Runner. Secondly, it reveals the endless torture and pain that Hassan has suffered in his tragic life in contrast to his temporary happiness in his early years. Finally, it summarizes the complicated causes that lead to Hassan’s tragedy, such as social causes and defects of human nature.

摘  要

小说《追风筝的人》是美国阿富汗作家卡勒德.胡赛尼的处女作，该小说不仅仅描述了两个少年阿米尔和哈桑之间的成长历程，还为我们展现了阿富汗的宗教状况，种族情况，社会形势等内容。自2003年出版以来，该小说便引起较强烈的反响，并感动了千千万万的读者。
本文以哈桑的悲剧命运为主线，通过对小说的历史、社会背景的探索，结合对阿富汗社会的宗教矛盾、种族矛盾以及人性善恶的探讨，深入挖掘哈桑悲剧命运产生的根源。旨在深入了解阿富汗社会与文化的同时，帮助读者更全面、更深刻地解读胡赛尼的这一作品及其影响。本论文被分为三大部分。第一部分简单回顾作者卡勒德.胡赛尼的人生经历及小说《追风筝的人》讲述的内容；第二部分通过对比哈桑早年短暂的快乐，揭示哈桑在其悲剧的一生中所遭受的无尽的折磨和痛苦；第三部分总结出哈桑悲剧产生的复杂根源，如社会因素及人性的弱点。
