Abstract

Jane Eye, Charlotte Bronte’s famous novel, is the greatest masterpiece of British literature in the 19th century. The unhappy childhood of Jane Eyre is surrounded by taunt, disdain and beating. Jane Eyre is not deterred by these sufferings but rather she starts to fight back. Jane Eyre, an autobiographical novel, shapes a new kind of female who struggles for equality, independence and love. Gone with the wind, the masterpiece of American female writer Margaret Mitchell at the beginning of 20th century, is setting in the American civil war and taking the life of daughter of the plantation owner Scarlett as the main clue. Margaret Mitchell creates a new image that pursues love and independence, and defies the patriarchal for equality. This thesis takes these two novels as examples and makes a comparative analysis of feminism reflected in them.
In this thesis, four chapters are included. Chapter one introduces the definition, origin， development and influence of feminism. Chapter two deals with writing background of Jane Eyre and Gone with the win, and introduces the two writers. Chapter three analyzes the two heroines’ feminism in terms of rebellion spirit, pursuit of independence, love and marriage to point out their similarities and the differences. Chapter four analyzes the limitations of feminism reflected by the two heroines with specific historical background. Through the analysis, it is pointed out that pursuing independence and equality is the objective of women’s realization of self-worth.

摘  要

《简爱》，夏洛蒂•勃朗特的名作,是19世纪英国文坛最杰出的小说。简爱不幸的童年被嘲讽、鄙视、毒打包围。她没有被吓倒，反而开始反抗。《简爱》是一部自传体小说，塑造了一位争取平等、独立和爱情的新女性形象。《飘》是20世纪初美国女作家玛格丽特•米切尔的代表作，以美国南北战争为背景，以庄园主的女儿斯嘉丽为主线，玛格丽特•米切尔塑造了一个执著追求爱情和独立人格、不畏男权求平等的女性形象。本文以这两部作品为例，比较分析它们各自所体现的女性主义。
本文包含四个章节，第一章介绍女性主义的定义、起源、发展和影响。第二章简述《简爱》和《飘》的写作背景并分别介绍两部小说的作者。第三章从反叛精神，以及对独立、爱情和婚姻的追求几个方面，分析简爱和斯嘉丽两位女主人公所体现出的女性主义的异同。最后分析特定时代背景下两位女主人公身上女性主义的局限性。通过分析，指出追求独立和平等是女性实现自我价值的目标指向。
