Abstract

When it comes to the “Lost Generation”, what first hits upon us is a world -renowned writer--Ernest Hemingway. In the world of literary critics circle, Hemingway remains an interesting figure who wins praise for his great contribution to the world literature, but also bear criticism from feminists concerning his male chauvinism in his works at the same time. In recent decades, with the emergence and development of ecofeminist consciousness, A Farewell to Arms becomes the focal point of various comments of critics abroad and home.
Setting in World War I, Hemingway uses Catherine and Henry’s love story as its main clue to reflects cruelty and evil of the imperialist war. By comparing the nature scenery before and after war, Hemingway has represented his disgust and strong condemnation of the human’s crime.
This thesis’s aim is to tap Hemingway’s ecofeminist consciousness by rereading A Farewell to Arms from ecofeminist perspective and tracing back the origins of the formation of Hemingway’s ecofeminist consciousness. This study attempts to reveal people a logical formative process of his ecofeminist consciousness. At the same time, by analyzing three female characters, the author aims to represent Hemingway’s ecofeminism from a different angle. Instead of a supporter of masculinism, Hemingway shows great concern for the living situation of female, expresses his deep sympathy for women’s unfair fate, delivers his high praise to women’s courage and spirit to break the barrier of tradition and acknowledges women’s significant and irreplaceable statues in the whole civilization and men’s life.
To sum up, nature and gender are everlasting themes in the Hemingway’s whole creation life. Hemingway embodies a profound cogitation on the relationship between human and nature, male and female. Hemingway’s advocacy of his ecofeminist consciousness in A Farewell to Arms has irreplaceable and significant role in the development of a harmonious society.

    谈及 “迷惘的一代”,我们最先想到的或许便是那位享誉世界的作家-厄内斯特 海明威。在世界文学评论界,海明威是一位极富争议的作家,他为文学作出极大贡献的同时,同时招致了女性主义对其作品中所体现的男性至上主义的质疑。在最近的几十年中,随着生态女性主义兴起，“永别了武器”成了文学评论界的研究焦点。以第一次世界大战为背景，海明威以亨利和凯瑟琳的爱情故事为主线反映帝国主义战争的残忍和罪恶。同过对战争前后的大自然的描写，海明威表达了对人类对自然的破坏的反感和强烈的谴责。
    本文旨在以生态女性意识的角度欣赏《永别了武器》与挖掘文中的生态女性意识，追溯海明威生态女性意识形成的原因并为读者逻辑性地呈现出海明威生态女性意识的形成过程。同过对文中三个女性角色的分析来从另一个角度探索海明威的生态女性主义。海明威极为关注女性的生活状况，在向女性不公平的命运表达深切的同情同时也赞扬了女性敢于冲破传统的束缚的勇气。海明威认为女性在整个文明社会以及男人的生活中的地位有着极为重要和无法取代的地位。
    总而言之，自然与性别是海明威创作生涯中永恒的主题。海明威一生都在探索着人与自然以及男人与女人之间的关系。他在 <<永别了武器>>中对生态女性主义的宣扬在和谐社会的发展历程中有着举足轻重的地位。
