Abstract

    Ernest Miller Hemingway is one of the most gifted and most frequently criticized writers in modern literature. He enjoyed a high critical reputation both at home and abroad with its code hero image of surf in the literary world. Hemingway's life can be described as extraordinary life, even full of courage and legendary life, which give Hemingway marked by the stigma of Code Hero profound shock. However, the protagonists in Hemingway’s novels are not appears with code hero at first, they grow up with different experience and finally become a code hero. Barnes in Sun Also Rises, Jordan in Whom the Bells Tolls and Santiago in the Old Man and the Sea, are the representatives of Hemingway’s Code Heroes. They become strong, determined from naïve, weak base on their experience like Hemingway his own life, This paper mainly introduces the code hero images through the above three classic novels, analyze the characteristic of the Code Hero according to these literary works. Through the three heroes’ life experiences and their pursuit of values, this trilogy demonstrates the development of the “code hero”, and thus represents the course of the construction of this world outlook and this faith in life. Finally, the paper will discuss the causes of the successful creation of the code hero, which includes: affective power of the plot, supporting roles used as foils, and Hemingway's special writing style and his "iceberg" theory. The conclusion shows that Hemingway and his code hero are closely connected with each other. On the basis of his own experience, Hemingway created his image of the code hero successfully.At the same time, the images of code hero have great significance to modern man in their confrontation with the difficult circumstances.

欧内斯特•米勒•海明威是现代文学中最有天赋的作家之一。作为美国最伟大的作家之一，海明威以其文学作品中树立的硬汉形象在国内外享有至高无上的声誉， 为人们所敬仰和喟叹。海明威的一生可谓是不平凡的一生，甚至是充满了勇气和传奇色彩的一生, 并给海明威打上了“硬汉”的标记，深刻且震撼。海明威小说中的硬汉并非与生俱来，他们是通过不断的磨练和成长最终才成为海明威笔下的硬汉：《太阳照样升起中》的巴恩斯，《丧钟为谁而鸣中》的乔丹和《老人与海》中的圣地亚哥都是基于海明威自己的人生经历而创作出来的。本文从上述的三部作品来介绍海明威笔下的硬汉形象，然后通过分析这些文章的中硬汉的特点来阐述其基本的内涵。最后我将探讨海明威成功塑造这些硬汉形象的原因，分别从剧情感染力，配角的衬托和写作风格等方面进行阐述。结论部分讲述了海明威作品中的硬汉形象是怎样成功塑造。同时，硬汉形象对于处于困境中的现代人也有着重要的意义。
