Abstract: Wuthering Heights has absorbed generations of readers with the protagonists’ love tragedy. Their love shocks people, at the same time; it also leaves many thoughts to posterity. The protagonists’ love is limited by external cause—special social background and internal cause—individual personalities, which are two main factors contributing to tragic love. This paper aims to reveal the causes of the protagonists’ love tragedy. In addition，this paper  makes a comparison between love and marriage. As modern people’s attitudes towards love and marriage are changing, it is hoped that this paper will provide some advice for the modern people and help to better ponder over the truth of love and marriage and establish correct love and marriage view.

摘要：呼啸山庄以其震撼人心的悲剧爱情吸引着一代又一代的读者，主人公的爱情故事在震撼人的心灵的同时也给后人留下跟多的思考。本文旨在揭露悲剧爱情形成的原因,他们的爱情主要受两大因素影响，外因和内因。外因主要表现为特殊的社会大背景，内因则为个人的性格。这两大主要因素导致了主人公的悲剧爱情。本文也对爱情与婚姻进行了比较。因为现代人对于婚姻和爱情的态度正在改变，所以本文对于现代人更好的理解爱情和婚姻的真谛以及帮助人们树立正确的爱情和婚姻观具有一定的参考价值。

Wuthering Heights enjoys a high reputation in English literature and the world literature. Entering into the late nineteenth century, this special charming novel Wuthering heights is attracting an increasing number of scholars. The English writer William Somerset Mangham ever appreciated the love of Heathcliff and Cathrine and said, “ I have never read such a realistic novel as Wuthering Heights that puts the pain, strong and cruel description into love.”(Mangham，1948) In this brand-new era, the desire to unravel the mystery of this work appears to be especially irresistible, the scholars are paying more attention to criticize Heathcliff’s revenge, analyze figures’ personalities, understand the heroes’ love and so on. So it is hoped that this paper can provide basis for them to study this work and more western literature works concerned. On the other hand, along with the socioeconomic development and the improvement of living standards, love and marriage education and counseling to the modern people has become the question which modern society is unable to avoid. Under such new situation, this paper has important value in understanding true love and the marital meaning and giving correct guidance as to love and marriage to modern people.
