摘要

J. D. 塞林格因其《麦田里的守望者》名声大振，而除了这一部广为人知的小说外，他的短篇小说集《九故事》也获得了颇高的声誉。以往研究者多将分析重点放在《麦田里的守望者》和《九故事》中的《捕香蕉鱼的绝佳日子》和《为埃斯米而作——既有爱也有污秽凄苦》两篇上，而小说集中最后一篇《泰迪》则少有人问津，本文试从存在主义角度对《泰迪》一篇进行深入解读，在已有的研究基础上，以存在主义相关理论为切入点，系统分析主人公泰迪认识自我、追寻自我的历程。  
论文主要由引言、文献综述、主体与结论构成。引言部分主要交代论文的论点，研究方法，研究目的和意义,并概述论文结构安排。文献综述主要对历史以来关于《泰迪》的一些评述作品的进行综合分析。主体部分分为三部分。第一部分分析泰迪的现实处境以及他身处其中的疏离感，探索他对存在的迷惘。第二部分探析他对自我存在的探索与追寻过程。第三部分讨论泰迪在追寻自我最后的选择。结论部分对小说主人公泰迪的自我追寻历程进行简单总结，并指出论文的现实意义。

Abstract

J. D. Salinger made a name for himself with the publication of The Catcher in the Rye，besides which he also received a credibility due to a collection of short stories titled Nine Stories. Articles published about Salinger’s works mainly focus on the novel The Catcher in the Rye and two short stories in Nine Stories--- “A Perfect Day for Bananafish” and “For Esmé-with Love and Squalor”. However, the last story in this collection named “Teddy” has rarely studied. In this paper, an existentialistic study will be made to reveal the existentialistic ideas shown in Teddy, and the journey of the protagonist’s(Teddy) self-seeking will be analyzed.
This paper mainly includes five parts:introduction, literature review, related theory, body and conclusion. The introduction part is mainly about the arguments, method, purpose and significance of the study as well as an overview of the structural arrangement of this paper. Literature review is a composite analysis of articles about Salinger and his works. The third part introduces some related existentialistic theories. The body text is divided into three sections--- the first section reveals the realistic situation Teddy is in and his confusion about his being; the second section explores the process of Teddy’s self-understanding and self-pursuing; the third section discloses Teddy’s fateful choice of his searching journey. The conclusion part provides a brief summary of the whole story and points out the significance of this paper.
