Abstract: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a masterpiece written by Mark Twain, a great American realistic writer in the nineteenth century. With the antihero image of the protagonist Huckleberry, the novel has been read by generations of people with undiminished affection since its publication. Providing the antihero with its ever-lasting charm, the novel is commonly called “the Great American Novel.” This paper aims to analyze the antihero image of Huckleberry. The analysis centers on not only its manifestations-Huckleberry’s rebellion against the traditional cultural etiquette, his ambivalence, his longing for freedom, and his lack of ambition and actions-and its causes-the social and the protagonist’s family environment-but also the stylistic features of the novel, namely the first person narration, the protagonist’s colloquial language, and the description of natural scenery. It is hoped that this paper will be of great value for students and help them to better understand and appreciate the novel and similar literature works.
