ABSTRACT

Pride and prejudice is the most significant work of Jane Austin, which was written in 1813. It also plays an important role in the history of the world literature. .This thesis, based on the previous study, will try to work out the actual state of the major characters’ marriage and analyze the complex relations between these boys and girls socially according to their social life. In contemporary society, marriage is the thing that every one of us has to face. The thesis describes four types of marriage and each type can find a model in the reality. By conducting the study we find out that attitudes towards marriage in the 18th century actually have something in common with the contemporary opinions on marriage, which exactly can guide the men and women to hold the correct understanding of marriage. The thesis through study in the marriage of Pride and Prejudice can have effects on the correct idea formation of marriage of modern individuals.

《傲慢与偏见》是简.奥斯汀最重要的作品之一，写于1813年，它在世界文学史上扮演着非常重要的角色。此论文在前人研究的基础上，将会揭示主要人物的真实婚姻状态以及分析书中男女在社交活动中的复杂关系。当今社会，婚姻是每个人都一定会经历的事情。此论文将会描绘四种不同的婚姻，每种婚姻在现实中都可以找到一个模板。进行此研究我们能发现18世纪的婚姻观和当今的婚姻观有许多相似之处。以此，对男女间婚姻的理解能有一定的指导意义。同时，此论文通过对《傲慢与偏见》中婚姻的研究，对现代人婚姻观念重塑有一定的帮助。

Chapter One    Introduction
1.1 Background
    Pride and Prejudice was a novel written in the 18th century when men deserved many more social rights than women. It is the actual detailed collections of social life in the 18th century England. As we all know, men were always considered and supposed to be gentleman. Jane Austin was born on December 16, 1775, at the rectory in the village of Steventon, in Hampshire. She had never entered a normal school but she was well educated by her family for her father was a knowledgeable man.
