D. H. Lawrence is one of the most unique and controversial writers in 20 century and one of the greatest writers in English literature history. He is born in a miner family, which provides a rich writing source for his works. During his whole life, he creates more than 40 novels, poems, traveling notes and so on. His works explore such themes like family, marriage and sex, which have great influence on the writing in that era.
Lady Chatterley’s Lover, as Lawrence’s last novel, is the most controversial fiction of Lawrence’s works. It directly describes sex and industry’s damage to the development of human nature. Its publication met many impediments.“A celebrated court case catapulted the novel into infamy; the scandal reception in England, Paris and other locals in 1928” (Kastan, 2009: 237). The limited prints of Lady Chatterley’s Lover through a private press in Italy sell well, but also deprive Lawrence of income because of the piracy. In that time, many people regard this novel as obscene book. However, Lawrence refuses to delete the sex description in it though he revises the novel three times seriously. He says, “the sensual passion and mysteries are equally scared with the spiritual mysteries and passions" (Lawrence, 2006:10).
