Abstract

Toni Morrison is the one who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1993 and also the only black woman who have achieved it. Her novels are renowned by vivid images and profound thoughts. Her works are tragedies always representing the black women’s life. The theme is always the tragic life of the black people and the conflict between the white culture and the black culture. Beloved has reached a high-degree excellence and been the eternal classic among the contemporary.
Denver is a very important and complex character in the novel. She is diffident, wise, endocentric and vulnerable. Her mother’s compliance and Beloved’s spite makes Denver walk away from the house 124. With encouragement and support of Denver’s grandmother, Denver keeps high enthusiasm and actively participates in the talk with community people. This thesis is a tentative attempt at an analysis of Denver’s growth and the influencing factors. It demonstrates the attitude toward history, the importance of community solidarity and the growth of the black women.
This thesis is composed of three parts: introduction, main body and conclusion. The introduction starts with a brief presentation of Toni Morrison and her work Beloved as well as reviews on the book from both overseas and domestic academic circle. Whereas the main body analyses Denver’s growth process, the influencing factors and the meanings of Denver’s growth. Last but not the least, the conclusion summarizes all the things above and formulates a series of the limitation of this study. Anyway I am also looking forward to the further study of it.

托妮·莫里森是1993年诺贝尔文学奖的获得者，也是美国历史上获此殊荣的唯一黑人女作家。她的小说以鲜明的人物形象和深刻的思想感情而闻名，她的作品大多是代表着黑人女性并充满了悲剧色彩。“美国黑人命运的残酷，以及白人文化和黑人传统文化之间的冲突和对峙”这一主题总是贯穿于她的小说。《宠儿》是托妮·莫里森最成熟的代表作，现已成为当代文学史上不朽的经典。
丹芙是小说中一位重要的、复杂的人物，她羞涩、聪明、敏感、多思。母亲的屈服和宠儿的肆意妄为使丹芙走出124号的世界。在丹芙奶奶的鼓励和支持下，丹芙对参与社区人们的交流保持着很高的热情和参与度。本文旨在通过对丹芙的成长历程的解读和其影响因素的分析，从而表明面对历史的态度，社区团结的重要性和黑人女性成长的主题。
本篇论文共分为三个部分，分别是引言、主体和结论。引言部分首先简要介绍了托妮·莫里森及其作品《宠儿》并回顾了国内外学术界对该部作品的相关评论。主体部分主要分析了丹芙的成长历程以及对其造成影响的主要因素和其成长的意义所在。最后结论部分概括了以上内容，并提出了本文研究的不足及对以后研究的期待。
