Abstract:

Wuthering Heights is the only novel of Emily Bronte, who died at the age of thirty, a year after its publication. A brooding Yorkshire tale of a love that is stronger than death, it is also a fierce vision of metaphysical passion in which heaven and hell, nature and society, and dynamic and passive forces are powerfully juxtaposed. Unique, mystical, with a timeless appeal, it has become a classic of English literature. Wuthering Heights has become a book of its own, and knowing this will help us to understand the circumstances when the book was written and the importance of analysis Heathcliff and Wuthering Heights in an objective way. The process of analysis the context, the deeds of his life and the story line gives us a further understanding of what kind of person Heathcliff truly is and the actual theme of Wuthering Heights—fight for love.

1. Introduction
Wuthering Heights is considered to be a straightforward, if intense, love story—Romeo and Juliet on the Yorkshire Moors by those who have never read the book. But this is a mistake. What the story is really about is revenge. It tracks the life of Heathcliff, a homeless gypsy child to his death in his late thirties. Heathcliff rises in his adopted family and then is reduced to the stage of a servant, running away when the young lady he loves decides to marry another. Later he returns, rich and educated and starts his revenge to the ones he thought that ruined his life. The novel, too, is a story of love that no human could ever imagine. Love that beyond life and death, for the love Heathcliff has for Catherine lingers even after Catherine’s death. Her declaration “I am Heathcliff” represents the union of their souls. People think Heathcliff is a man with no soul because he is the cruelest man one can ever imagine, but in my opinion, he is only a human being who fights harder for the sake of love.
