Pecola’s pursuit for blue eyes contrasts to the Sula’s revolt of unfair fate; Pecola’s unfair treatment in school contrasts to the litttle white girl’s population; Pauline’s stern and harsh for Pecola contrasts to Pauline’s gentle and soft for the little girl from white family. All of these factors lead to the Pecola ’s character. And Pecola’s tragic fate also represents the lost soul, self-denial of most black women under the strong culture.

Her novels are known for their epic themes, vivid dialogue, and richly detailed black characters. Her works, most concerned with black female’s life, spiritual world and destiny, root deeply in the reality of the black human beings searching for living space and self-identity under the pressure of the white human beings values.
