Abstract:
Emily Bronte was a famous writer in Britain. She wrote 193 poems and one novel named Wuthering Heights which made her known as a peculiar writer in the 19th century in Britain. More and more studies about Wuthering Heights are made, however, there are many different interpretations from different aspects.

This thesis reviews the different interpretations to Wuthering Heights, and clarifies the objective of this thesis. Then it makes a brief introduction to Emily and Wuthering Heights and a summary of Freud’s psychoanalytic theory in the first part. Next this thesis analyzes Heathcliff’s character based on id and revenges, Catherine’s character based on ego and vanity, and Edgar’s character based on superego and love. It makes an analysis of Lockwood from dreams and an analysis of Nelly from consciousness.
